A dispersal order is in place across a large swathe of the west of Preston for Tuesday (31 October) evening.

Preston Police have put a section 60 in force across Larches, Lea and around Ashton Park into Ashton-on-Ribble.

The powers allow police to stop and search anyone in the specified area without needing to have reasonable grounds.

Officers can also demand face coverings be removed on request.

The Section 60 is in force until 2am on Wednesday (1 November) and is in response to reports of disorder in the area during Tuesday afternoon.

Inspector Dave Byrne, from Preston Neighbourhood Policing Team said “Normal stop and search powers mean people can only be stopped and searched if a police officer has reasonable grounds.

“A Section 60 allows police officers to stop and search people even if they don’t have suspicions about them, which we are utilising for a short time to keep our communities safe.”
