They said: “On Tuesday 3 October at 18:48 two males entered the school premises from Ampleforth Drive. At 18:55 they drove out of the school premises onto Far Croft and then onto Leyland Road. Witnesses have reported the vehicle being driven on the M65 towards Blackburn/Burnley at approximately 19:15.

“The theft of the minibus has had a huge impact on our school community. Our neighbours have kindly provided us with CCTV footage which we will share with Lancashire Police. A huge thank you to the local community for their support and kind wishes.”

They went on to say that pupils are now unable to attend some activities off-site due to the minibus being “crucial” in allowing students to go to different therapies and sporting activities.

They added: “Many of our pupils’ struggle with changes in routine, this also includes traveling on a different bus or staying in school when they should be swimming or access soft play.

“Members of staff spend time preparing them for transitions and creating social stories to ensure they have access to the very best provision possible. The loss of the minibus has really upset many of our pupils.”

South Ribble Police released a statement regarding the theft saying: “The theft of the minibus was reported to us yesterday morning after staff arrived for work.

“We are investigating the theft. If there are any sightings of the minibus, please call 101, quoting log 0174 of October 4.”
