M61 re-opens in both directions between Chorley and Horwich after police incident

Major delays remain on the M61 between Preston and Bolton after it was closed.


Lancashire Police were dealing with an ‘incident’ between Junction 8 (Chorley) and Junction 6 (Horwich).

The motorway was shut in both directions due to the incident which began shortly after 12noon on Sunday (15 October). It re-opened around 1.30pm.

National Highways North West says there are delays of at least 30 minutes in both directions on the M61.


Motorists were being advised to find alternative routes and the A6 through Chorley is seeing very heavy traffic as a result.
