Patrols have been stepped up by police after reports of weapons being carried in Ribbleton.
Preston Police said the stop and search powers – a Section 60 – had been put in place following the incident in Blackpool Road, Ribbleton end, on Monday (5 September) around 6.12pm.
The Section 60 – active since 4pm on Tuesday (5 September) covers an area of Ribbleton and Fishwick running from Acregate Lane, Ribbleton Avenue, Cromwell Road, Watling Street Road, Gamull Lane, Brockholes Brow, Preston New Road and New Hall Lane.

A police spokepserson said: “We take these reports very seriously and in order to investigate this incident effectively and keep you safe, a search authority under Section 60 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994, has been put in place. It will remain in place until 2am tomorrow (Wednesday).
“These powers allow our officers to stop and search any person inside the designated area shown on the map (Acregate Lane, Ribbelton Ave, Cromwell Road, Watling Street Road, Gamull Lane, Brockholes Brow, Preston New Road, New Hall Lane).
“You will see an increased number of officers in the area. Please don’t be concerned. They are there for reassurance and to ensure reports are investigated thoroughly.”
