A flood alert has been issued for western areas of the River Ribble estuary on the Penwortham and Freckleton sides of the river.

The Environment Agency has set the alert for the high tide forecast on Sunday (1 October). The high tide is due around 1am.
Areas at risk include Freckleton Marsh, Riversway Docklands, Lower Penwortham, Hutton Marsh, Longton Marsh, Becconsall Marsh, Much Hoole Marsh, Bretherton Eyes, Croston Finney, Hesketh Out Marsh and Hundred End.
A statement from the Environment Agency says: “Please be careful along riverside footpaths and roads as large waves and sea spray could be dangerous.”
Preston looks set to see continuous rainfall throughout Saturday, Sunday and Monday.
