Retired Prestonians are being invited to join a club who get out and about exploring the city and beyond.

Founded in 1974 the Preston Forum Probus Club is now in its 49th season.

Based at Our Lady and St Edward Parish Centre in Fulwood the club is open to retired and semi-retired men and women from all walks of life.

It was founded by Preston Rotary Club and is an independent, non-religious, non-political organisation.

Club president Roger Jones said: “I’m looking forward to the exciting programme we have lined up this year. It includes talks on local and Scottish history, life in a Northern mill town, travels along the Yangtze River and a culinary journey through the eyes of a celebrity chef.

“We will also be taking members on a behind the scenes tour of the Grand Theatre in Blackpool as well as organising lunches at local restaurants.

“We pride ourselves on being a welcoming and inclusive club and encourage anyone thinking about joining to come along, free of charge initially, to a meeting. I’m sure that whatever an individual’s tastes there will be something to enjoy during the season.”

Meetings begin on Thursday 7 September and run until April. They take place alternate Thursdays and are from 10am to 12noon.

It costs £35 per year to be a member and the full programme can be seen on the Preston Probus Forum website.
