A cricket club in a village on the outskirts of Preston has raised nearly £2,500 in memory of its former groundsman.
Chris Billington passed away aged 70 from cancer and was described as a heart and soul of Grimsargh Cricket Club.
In his memory the club have started the now annual Billy’s Big Bash charity day.
Junior, women’s and a men’s game took place throughout Sunday 20 August with visitors enjoying drinks, food, a raffle and a cake stall as the sun appeared for the majority of the day.
A total of £2,412.73 was raised on the day and will be split between the cricket club and St Catherine’s Hospice where Chris was cared for.
A spokesperson for Chris’ family said: “We are grateful of the love and support shown to Chris and the family as a member of the club and also the care and support we received from St Catherine’s.”
