Support with the cost of living crisis is available for South Ribble families following the local elections in May.

Cllr Paul Foster, the leader of the now Labour majority South Ribble Borough Council, pledged to deliver an emergency cost of living action plan within 100 days of taking overall control.

During that time, the council has set up a pop-up school uniform shop, supporting over 500 families and over 1,000 children. This resource provides families with access to free school uniform, consisting of donations from residents and vouchers that can be used in local shops.

The council has also committed an additional £680,000 to continue to support individuals and community organisations with energy vouchers and energy efficiency adaptations throughout 2023-24.

The council has invested in Unify Credit Union with a branch open in Leyland. This provides residents with access to a wide range of financial services, including loans with low interest rates. People are able to begin saving for Christmas now with their Christmas Saver to help manage the cost and avoid getting into debt.

An investment of £300,000 has also been agreed for the South Ribble Family Wellbeing Centre in Lostock Hall, to provide families with much needed holistic support. This is set to open in December 2023.

A renewed action plan to help struggling families outlines that up to 11,000 local children will benefit from free meals and healthy activities during the school holidays, and a £1.05m Household Support Fund: £1.05m is directly supporting over 7,000 residents across the Borough.
