Two Wilko stores in Preston face uncertain future

Two Preston shops face an uncertain future as Wilko appears to be close to entering administration.

The homeware retailer has stores in Friargate in Preston city centre and also at Deepdale Shopping Park.

According to BBC News the firm which has 12,000 staff has filed a ‘notice of intention’ which is the step before administrators are called in.

Chief executive Mark Jackson said there were continued talks with interested parties about options for the retailer.

Andy Prendergast, national secretary at the GMB union, said: “This is extremely concerning but we remain hopeful that a buyer can be found.

“Wilko’s staff deserve reassurance that their jobs are safe. We hope this is the number one priority going forward.”
