Three children in hospital after Barton van crash

Three children are in hospital after a crash in Barton during Tuesday lunchtime.

The A6, Garstang Road, has been shut just south of Owd Nells after a van collided with three children – all pedestrians.

Updated: Sadly a six-year-old girl died in hospital following the crash

Preston Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage.

The crash took place at 1.15pm and a 59-year-old man from Nateby, near Garstang, has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He remains in custody.

Police say all three children have been taken to hospital with one described as in a ‘critical but stable condition’.

The stretch of the A6 close to Owd Nells remains closed in both directions and diversion routes are in place.

Police are urging motorists to avoid the area if possible.
