Three Preston community organisations and charities are set to see nearly £30,000 in rent owing to Preston City Council written off.

The city council is proposing to use £28,000 of under-spending in its grant budget to help the Plungington Community Centre, Windrush CIC and the Pukah Disability Resource Centre in Avenham.

The one-off contributions are to be made as all three organisations ‘are unable to meet their rental obligations in full’.

All three charity and community groups operate from council-owned premises.

A report from city council officers states: “there are two budget lines within the community engagement budget that have been underspent for 22/23.

“This has been carried over and it is proposed to be repurposed to provide one-off rental relief for three community organisations.

“All three are valued organisations delivering critical work with some of our most deprived and disadvantaged communities.”
