A 24-hour performance will take place in Penwortham in memory of two champions of the arts in South Ribble.

Double R Arts and Friends are joining together to remember Ron and Angela Blenkinship.

Together they created the charity which inspired arts work for young people in Penwortham and South Ribble for decades.

Ron passed away from cancer in July 2012 leaving his wife Angela to carry on Double R Arts – until her death, also from cancer, in September last year.

In memory of the couple then members of the group will perform 70-4-70, with 70 performances over the 24-hours in memory of the couple.

The performance will also mark the closure of Double R Arts after the difficult decision was taken to close the charity from 31 August this year.

Amy Donnelly, a past member of Double R Arts and now volunteer with the organisation said “It has been an incredible few weeks seeing so many past members return to the centre to celebrate such an incredible cause. To see everyone rally together to give Double R Arts the send of it so greatly deserved has been hugely inspirational.

“We just hope we can do our bit to raise much needed funds for these two thoroughly deserving charities that have done and continue to do such great work in our community. If you are in a position to donate or support the event in any way, it would mean the world to Double R Arts.”

The 24-hour performance begins at Priory Lane Community Centre at 2pm on Saturday (12 August) and finishes at 2pm on Sunday 13 August.

Donations can be made via Justgiving and will go to support St Catherine’s Hospice and Wigan and Leigh Hospice.
