The bowling greens in Moor Park are set for a major revamp.

According to Preston City Council the greens were ‘significantly damaged’ due to misuse during the coronavirus lockdowns.

A report by council officers states: “Following a lengthy period of misuse, all four of the bowling greens are no longer suitable for playing bowls. During the COVID pandemic period usage of parks and open spaces significantly increased and the bowling greens were used extensively for picnics, football and other recreational activities which caused widespread damage to the playing surface.”

The Moor Park greens also include special features to assist those who are visually impaired and was used by The Preston and District Blind Bowling Club.

It was the only facility within Lancashire with the assistance features and is in high demand according to the city council’s report.

The city council’s cabinet is being asked to sign off spending £32,747.80 for two of the four greens to be restored.
