The Leader of Preston City Council has spoken out against plans to close Preston Railway Station’s ticket office.
Proposals for the future of railways outline how ticket offices would be scrapped and replaced with ‘multi-skilled customer ambassador roles’, which would help customers buy tickets from machines.

In a statement, Councillor Matthew Brown, said: “I am absolutely opposed to this plan.
“Many people prefer to use the ticket office. Personal interaction is essential to many travellers, particularly those with disabilities.
“Not everyone is comfortable using the machines. With the proposed reduction in hours the ticketing support staff will be available to assist, many people who need help would not be able to access it. This proposal is not customer focused and there is also the added potential loss of jobs or reduction in hours for local employees.
It is unnecessary, short sighted and is not popular. I urge Preston Railway Station’s operators to think again.”
