A Preston professor has been enlisted in the search for a murder suspect – 16 years on.

Police Scotland say Derek Ferguson, who is now aged 59, is wanted in connection with the murder of Thomas Cameron.

Cameron died outside a pub in Auchinairn Road, Bishopbriggs – just outside Glasgow – on Thursday, 28 June 2007.

An international arrest warrant remains in place for Ferguson and police turned to forensic psychologist expert professor Charlie Frowd for help.

The University of Central Lancashire lecturer has created a number of pictures of how Ferguson would look now and these have been released via YouTube shorts in a short animated sequence to help the search.

Detective Chief Superintendent (DCS) Vicky Watson said: “Our officers have carried out painstaking enquiries and research over the years to trace Ferguson and the new images released are as a result of our investigations and the current intelligence picture surrounding his appearance.

“I would like members of the public to look at these images and get in touch with the investigation team if you recognise him and, most importantly, have information about his current whereabouts.”

A reward of £10,000 is being offered by the independent charity Crimestoppers to anyone who contacts them anonymously on 0800555111 with information which leads to the arrest of Ferguson.

Or information can be given directly to Police Scotland through their Operation Lombard website.
