Driver arrested in Preston M6 drugs stop to appear in court

Cannabis uncovered from the vehicle by police

A man is appearing in court after being charged following £50,000 of cannabis being uncovered in a Mini Cooper.

Ermal Cala, 33, of no fixed address, has been charged after an incident on Monday (3 July) saw traffic on the M6 stopped.

Cala, who was driving a Mini Cooper, faces charges of possession of a Class B drug with intent to supply, driving a vehicle without due care and attention, failing to stop, driving without a licence and driving without insurance.

Police said the driver stopped in the live lane of the M6 southbound and then fled across the northbound carriageway running across lanes of moving traffic during Monday evening.

He was eventually caught in Cuerdale Lane, Walton-le-Dale, following searches involving the police helicopter and a drone.

Cala was due to appear before Preston Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (5 July).
