Preston Pedals, a group set up to encourage people in Preston to get on their bikes for everyday journeys and save bikes from landfill, is holding a free open event.

Last year, the group piloted a community cycle hub with money from the National Lottery. The group’s ambition now is to become a community cycling cooperative.

With the help of the Preston Cooperative Development Network (PCDN) and a grant from the Open Society Foundation, Preston Pedals is exploring ideas about what this cooperative will look like, its membership, and what kind of bike repair and ride support it will offer.

So, to help move this on, Preston Pedals is holding an open event at The Larder this month.

“We are hoping to involve as many people as possible in planning the way forward for our community bike hub cooperative,” said Julie Ridley, event organiser. “Everyone is welcome to attend, so come along and join us, have your say about what we do and how we do it.”

Preston Pedals would like to represent all communities in Preston and hope people will go along to outline what help is needed to encourage cycling for everyday journeys, shape how the group moves forward, set the agenda and get Preston pedalling.

“Free refreshments will be provided and it will be a great opportunity to meet great people wanting to help more people get on their bikes in Preston,” said Julie. “Let’s create a community that cycles!”

Preston Pedals Open Event will be held on Sunday 16 July from 2.30pm to 5pm at The Larder, 50 Lancaster Road, Preston PR1 1DD.

The event is free to attend but, where possible, people are asked to register via the Preston Pedals Facebook page.
