New apartments built by Community Gateway Association in the centre of Broughton are now finished.

The 52-bed block on the site of the former Golden Ball pub and restaurant has two blocks in total.

The apartments, known as The Watermills, are aimed at those aged 60 or over who want to live independently.

Easthams & CO have been appointed to help with marketing the two blocks of one and two-bedroom apartments on the Broughton crossroads.

Director Ed Eastham at Easthams & Co said the build-to-rent development is a first-of-a-kind in Preston: “It is fantastic to see this type of development in such a great location, and at an affordable rent.”

“Situated where it is in the heart of the village at Broughton Crossroads, it’s close to local amenities, provides easy access to the motorway network and is regularly served by the number 45 bus into Preston. It benefits from off-road parking and charge points for electric cars, and has a private coffee bar for residents to enjoy.”

The apartments have monthly rent which are 20 per cent below the market rate and are classed as affordable housing.

Executive Director of Customers and Communities at Community Gateway Association, Louise Mattinson, said: There’s been a definite shift in expectations in recent years, with more and more over 60s desiring upscale living, causing demand to rise steadily for high quality living accommodation that’s specifically designed for older adults. The Watermills addresses this demand by providing a luxurious yet affordable housing option that meets the evolving needs of this market, prioritising convenience, comfort, and a sense of community.”
