The current Wyre and Preston North MP says he will not seek re-election at the next general election.

Ben Wallace, the current defence secretary, has said he will step down at the next cabinet reshuffle which is due in September.

In an interview with The Sunday Times he said the decision was due to the impact frontline politics was making on his family.

Mr Wallace’s current constituency, Wyre and Preston North, is also due to disappear from the electoral map in the 2024 general election.

He has held the Wyre and Preston North seat since May 2010 and has been elected four times in total and has a majority of 16,781.

Mr Wallace, 53, became defence secretary in 2019 and has been widely praised for his handling of the Ukraine war.
