Arson hotspot former pub in Preston city centre to be demolished

A former pub and cafe-bar in Preston city centre is to be demolished.

What was Beat Street Cafe Bar has stood empty for many years.

In recent years it has become a hotspot for arson attempts and vandalism.

Previously is was The Balmoral Hotel and a pub has stood on the site for more than 100 years.

Now Preston Enterprise Limited owned by Mr Khalil Patel has applied for permission to demolish the building in Manchester Road off Church Street.

In documents submitted with the demolition application Mr Patel states the demolition has been ‘ordered by housing standards’ at the city council.

The demolition comes as major plans for a huge new housing block in the Stoneygate area of the city are set to begin and seek approval.

The Lancashire Post reported how in 2005 proposals had been lodged for an apartment block and shops on the site but never come to pass.
