An international dance teacher is flying in from Mexico to teach a dance class at a yoga centre in central Preston. Misty Tripoli, the founder of the popular dance fitness programme Groove and its online element BodyGroove, will be teaching a class at Mandala Yoga Preston on Monday 19th June 2023.

Misty is undertaking a European tour and the event is one of only two in the U.K. BodyGroove took Europe by storm during lockdown with Misty’s invitation to ‘dance as though everyone’s watching and you just don’t care’ inspiring people to dance in their living rooms and kitchens.

Emma Lowther-Wright, Director of Mandala Yoga, was running her yoga classes online at the time and jumped at the chance to train with Misty and has been offering live in-person classes across Preston since then. Her first classes were online during the pandemic, then in parks when outdoor classes were permitted, moving to libraries, community centres and the Mandala studio when lockdown restrictions were lifted.

“Groove is a dance class with a difference,” said Emma. “There’s no right or wrong, no left or right. It’s more like a kitchen disco than a dance class. There are no complicated steps or moves to learn and remember, I show 2 or 3 simple moves per song and everyone gets to do the moves their own way and I dance with the group in my own way too!

Dance should be a joyous expression of how the music makes us feel and we should be in our bodies and not worrying about right or wrong. Dancing in such a free way brings us joy, boosts confidence and improves our fitness. We also connect with each other when dancing, so it’s a great way to make new friends.”

Twenty-five tickets to dance with Misty were available and sold out quickly, however, Mandala Yoga will be scheduling future Groove classes very soon. Mandala Yoga Preston is a not-for-profit space in the city centre proving yoga and well-being sessions from chair yoga to arts and crafts socials to aerial yoga and drum circles. Emma, Director of Mandala, has been nominated for a BID Preston High Street Hero award for outstanding achievement in leisure.
