Cow becomes stuck in Savick Brook taking a cooling dip

Firefighters dealt with an unusual callout during Tuesday’s hot weather.

Penwortham Fire Station sent a crew to Savick Brook after a cow was spotted being stuck in the water.

Animal rescue and water rescue technicians were deployed to try and persuade ‘the beast to return to dry land’ according to the firefighters.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: “The steep banking making access and egress difficult but eventually she returned to the rest of the herd.

“As always we would urge people not to enter the water. Difficult to get this across to a large beast so instead arrangements made with farmer to repair fencing.”
