A Preston couple has launched a sustainable gender-neutral childrenswear brand.

Laura and Adam Pickup founded Futuro Bambino in 2022.

Laura and Adam started the brand after becoming parents and realising they weren’t able to maximise the hand-me-down approach, as their children’s clothes were so heavily gendered.

With Future Bambino, they aim to give families gender neutral clothing that can easily be shared between siblings and family members, extending the life of the clothes.

The range of hoodies, sweaters and t-shirts is made from 100 per cent organic cotton.

Items feature hook and loop patches, giving children the opportunity to swap and change the look of their clothes. The patches include dinosaurs, unicorns, flowers and rockets.

Co-founder Laura said: “Sharing clothes between siblings should be an easy and economical way to extend the life of clothes. But when the kids are different genders and they get older and start to express their own style, they don’t want to wear the hand-me-downs.

“Heavily gendered clothes featuring stereotypical ‘boys’ and ‘girls’ characters and motifs can mean items aren’t easily shared between family and friends, but our customisable approach and high quality materials means the clothes can be shared and passed down.

“This is better for the children, who can have fun with their clothes and be adventurous with the patches they use, and also better for the planet.”

The 21-item Futuro Bambino range to eight features gender neutral, earthy, natural colours, with prices starting from £12. 15 patches are available and cost £4 each.
