Plans to build a new sports community hub including a 3G football pitch in Ashton Park will be discussed in a Cabinet meeting today (Wednesday 19 April).
The proposal forms part of the Active Preston project in a bid to transform the city’s community infrastructure.
The estimated cost to build the Ashton Park Sports Hub is nearly £9.7m, and the main funding to support this would come from the £20m Levelling Up Fund (LUF).

Through the LUF grant it would be funded with £7,436,616 and £2,231,884 of match funding including up to £470,000 by Preston City Council.
More so the Football Foundation could possibly grant £1,161,884 for the Ashton Park Sports Hub.
To gain approval, the scheme is subject to a section 106 agreement, in which £600,750 of match funding has already been secured by the sports facilities contribution for up to 450 homes on the Ingol Village Golf Club residential development.

The planning report said: “This Contribution will facilitate the delivery of sport pitches in Ashton Park, will improve the sport and leisure offer, and will have a major positive impact on the health and well-being of the users and the local communities who use the park.
“The Contribution will support the delivery of the Ashton Park Sports Hub which supports the Council’s ‘Your City’ corporate priorities of ‘securing investment; improving assets and infrastructure; creating a city with a strong cultural and leisure offer’ as set out in Achieving Preston’s Priorities.”
