A Green Choir is singing among the trees and reedbeds of Ingol’s Dobcroft Nature Reserve.

Following a pilot event in March, participants will be able to learn and sing simple songs about nature at the planned future monthly gatherings.

People will be guided to different locations within the small nature reserve – which is located behind The Intact Centre in Whitby Avenue, and is home to long tailed tits, robins, blackbirds and the great crested newt.

The gatherings will be led by local community musician Jon Aveyard.

Jon said: “This is an opportunity for anyone, regardless of their ability or experience, to meet with other like-minded people to sing songs that respond to the natural world around us.”

At the pilot event, a small group gathered to sing songs about willow trees, magpies and more.

For one of the songs, participants were invited to suggest lines to be included based on what they could see around them.

Some of the songs allowed for different approaches to taking part so that more advanced singers could plot their own route through the harmonies while less confident singers could stick to one looped line.

After the session, one participant said: “I really enjoyed singing amongst nature and learning to blend our voices with the natural surroundings.”

Another said: “A lovely idea to sing among emerging buds and blossoms and birds.”

The Green Choir will meet between 2pm and 4pm on the following Sundays:

• 14 May
• 18 June
• 9 July

Participants are asked to gather at the front of The Intact Centre (49 Whitby Avenue, Ingol, PR2 3YP) by 2pm.

Attendees should take footwear suitable for mud, weather-appropriate clothing, and a drink for the break.

There will be about 15 minutes of walking in total and there is limited seating available in some parts of the nature reserve. Toilets will be available before and after the session and during the break.

The sessions cost £8 or £5 for concessions, which can be paid in cash.
