A Preston-based charity is hosting a fundraising comedy night with UK-based Malawian comedian, Daliso Chaponda on Tuesday 25 April.
Friends of Mulanje Orphans (FOMO) aids in looking after vulnerable children in Southern Malawi, through a network of 14 day care centres, a clinic and secondary school.
The charity’s fundraiser will provide direct aid to the region and people most in need, as the community has recently been hit by floods and a devastating cyclone.
A spokesperson for FOMO said: “Finalist of Britain’s Got Talent and star of BBC Radio 4’s Citizen of Nowhere, Daliso Chaponda is back on stage following his hit tour in 2018 ‘What the African Said’.
“Coming to this community venue at Hutton Village Hall near Preston, Daliso will provide laughs aplenty and a great night of entertainment to help FOMO raise funds, to send a container of vital goods to the community projects they run in Malawi, supporting the most vulnerable children in society.
“The 40ft container will be packed full of brand new sports kit, school uniform, computers and IT equipment, footballs and boots, books and writing materials – all things the children in Mulanje need in order to thrive in their daily lives and education.”

The majority of goods are donated to FOMO, but shipping a container thousands of miles costs around £9,500.
This fundraiser will go towards meeting that cost and ensuring the donated items reach their destination and the children most in need.
Doors will open from 7.30pm at Hutton Village Hall and a bar is available, with the show starting at 8 pm. There will also be a raffle and a short charity auction on the night.
