Mosques in Preston will amplify the Adhan/Call to Prayer for Eid this coming weekend.
The sighting of the new moon on Friday 21 / Saturday 22 April will mark the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan and a month of fasting, and the start of Eid al-Fitr, which centres around a large feast, religious and family celebrations.
Having received a formal request from the Muslim faith representative on the Preston Faith Covenant Group, Preston City Council has agreed to allow all mosques located within the authority boundaries to amplify externally the Adhan/Call to Prayer on the sighting of the new moon as part of the celebrations of Eid.
The council has requested that all mosques be sensitive to neighbouring residents and to ensure that the volume is set at a level that will not cause any undue disturbance.
The Adhan/Call to Prayer was previously amplified externally during lockdown.
