A fire has broken out at Recycling Lives in Longridge Road.
Firefighters were called today (Sunday 12 March) at 8.10am to a waste fire at the recycling facility.
Six fire engines from Preston, Fulwood, Penwortham, Bamber Bridge, Skelmersdale and Chorley along with the aerial ladder platform from Hyndburn attended.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus and using two hose reel jets and a ground monitor have been extinguishing the fire.
As of 10.30am, the stinger appliance, high volume pump and the drone unit were also in attendance.
The public have been asked not to fly drones nearby, and to keep windows and doors closed if they can see or smell smoke.
An update shortly before 2pm on Sunday from Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said they expect to be at the scene for a further seven to 10 hours.
Chief fire officer for Lancashire, Justin Johnson, shared an aerial image of the fire at the Recycling Lives premises.
He said: “A good sky view from our drone illustrating the scale of the fire and operations.”
The fire is causing traffic disruption in Longridge Road and Bluebell Way.
Preston Police said around 1pm on Sunday: “There is currently heavy congestion on Longridge Road at the junction with Bluebell Way. This is due to an ongoing incident in the area.”
A full overnight closure of the section of road from the Bluebell Way roundabout up Longridge Road by the Roman Way industrial estate has been confirmed by police. The road closure runs from the Bluebell Way roundabout up to Grimsargh, where the turn for Whittingham Lane is at Grimsargh Green.
A police spokesperson said: “Please be aware that Longridge Road is currently closed. It is closed from the roundabout at Red Scar. Closures are likely to stay in place overnight.”
