More than 750 people have signed a petition which aims to improve road safety along the A59 between the Samlesbury Hotel and Thwaites brewery.
Ronnie Pennington who started the petition is calling for BAE Systems (road issues are frequent near its site), and other businesses to resolve this issue with the council by introducing road traffic measures.
Ronnie said: “We are hoping to accomplish the implementation of road traffic calming measures along the A59 between the Mellor Brook (Thwaites brewery) roundabout and the A677 intersection.
“This stretch of road has been notorious for major road incidents and in some cases fatal, for sometime now. This is despite BAE Systems moving the main entrance to site from the old layout.

A representative for BAE Systems said: “We are aware of the petition launched with the aim of improving road safety near our site in Samlesbury.
“As a responsible company, we take seriously the health and safety our of employees and the communities in which we operate and we are engaging with the local council on this matter.”
“As a matter of urgency, we would like BAE Systems and other businesses to address and resolve this issue with the local council, before there is another major/fatal accident.”

A spokesman for Lancashire County Council said: “We have been made aware of the petition and general request to explore traffic calming on this stretch of road.
“The council funds a number of schemes where these will have the best effect on improving road safety.
“Once we have more detail on the petition’s main aims, we can then consider the issues being raised and whether further action is required.”
