A Lostock Hall gym is hosting a 24-hour workout to fundraise for a defibrillator.
AK Active owners Adam and Kimberley are aiming to raise £2,500 to have the life-saving kit fitted to the outside of their building in Watkin Lane so it can be used by the community.
In the UK there are more than 30,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests a year where emergency medical services attempt to resuscitate the victim.
The survival rate is low; only one in 10 people who have a cardiac arrest outside of a hospital survive. However, if defibrillation is used within three to five minutes it can produce survival rates as high as 50 to 70 per cent.

Adam said: “We believe that everybody should be within reach of equipment that can potentially save a life.
“We will fit the defibrillator to an external wall of AK Active so that the local community can access it in an emergency.”
The event will run from Saturday 25 to Sunday 26 March. Fundraisers will work together to exercise on the hour, every hour, and members of the public will be able to attend a fair.
