Grimsargh Parish Council is replacing all of Grimsargh’s wooden bus shelters over the next few weeks with ‘shiny’ new bus shelters.
This decision comes as they were previously subject to rot, vandalism and people frequently urinating in them which required on-going maintenance.
In a Facebook post, a spokesperson for the Council said: “Grimsargh Parish Council is delighted to inform you that all of Grimsargh’s bus shelters are being replaced over the next few weeks by shiny new bus shelters, starting with the bus shelter adjacent to The Hills.”
“The old wooden bus shelters required on-going maintenance and Grimsargh Parish Council agreed that both in practical terms, and in terms of aesthetics, it would be a good investment to upgrade the existing bus shelters

Since the social media announcements dropped, there’s been an array of mixed responses from local residents which include anger, frustration and delight at the new shelters along Preston Road, Grimsargh.
In the comments section one person said they weren’t happy with the Council not carrying out a public consultation: “Save your money and tell them to stop. They are horrendous. They’ve made the village look awful. Thanks for asking residents about this and what our thoughts are.”
Another said: “Nice of the village to ask the residents I would of been happy to contribute to the upkeep of the old bus shelters as would of all the village.”

There were also people who understand the practicality of the new bus shelters despite the picturesque look of the wooden ones.
One person said: “I liked the look of the wooden ones but agree with the decision to replace them. You can actually stand inside and watch for the bus coming when it’s raining and pitch black at 7.30am. And there’s no spiders in these ones.”
Another said: “Although I agree wooden ones look better, but they weren’t fit for purpose. My daughter who uses them regularly says far better because bus drivers can actually see people in them and they can keep dry (which is the whole purpose).”
