Students from Penwortham Girls High School have spent time cleaning First and Second World War graves at St Mary’s Church.
Six youngsters undertook the task after local veteran Ron Drakeford noticed the poor condition of the graves and requested help to clean them.
Mr Herbert, Curriculum Leader for History, said: “Armed with buckets, sponges and brushes, the students demonstrated a fantastic work ethic to scrub the headstones clean despite the torrential rain.
“The students were eager to offer their support to Ron and were a real credit to our school.
“Isabel W also placed white roses on each of the graves as an additional mark of respect, which we thought was an extra thoughtful touch.”
