The Harris Pop-Up Shop opens for Christmas at Preston Markets

Preston Markets was sprinkled with the Christmas spirit earlier this month, as the Harris opened a pop-up shop full of ‘festive favourites’.

The shop stays open between 11am to 3pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays throughout November and December, at the Preston outdoor market.

From Thursday 10 November, the Harris pop-up shop is one of the places to purchase Preston and Lancashire merchandise and other gifts created by local artists.

Including a unique range of bespoke presents based on favourite Harris collection items such as ‘Pauline in the Yellow Dress’ by Sir James Gunn.

It will include a wide assortment of items great for all the family, offering a range of prices to accommodate and suit everyone’s budgets.

The Harris is offering an extensive selection of jewellery and merchandise, as well as a variety of artwork and books.

Councillor Peter Kelly, Cabinet member for culture and leisure services at Preston City Council said:

“The Harris pop-up shop is a welcome addition to the fantastic independent businesses that trade at Preston Markets. It is an opportunity for local artists and designers to sell their products through the Harris pop-up shop and gain exposure to new customers.

“Supporting this latest business venture will bring new life to favourite Harris collections through the inspired custom pieces available to purchase during this period of transformation.”

Prestonians will be be able to purchase ‘Pauline in the Yellow Dress’ merchandise based on the Sir James Gunn painting from the Harris collection.

Pauline was described as the ‘Mona Lisa of 1944 by The Daily Mail and today this painting remains as popular as ever.

The exclusive collection can be purchased from the Harris pop-up shop including mugs, coasters, prints and tea towels.

Local people will be able to get their hands on their very own ‘Pauline’ merchandise to display at home while the real ‘Pauline’ is safely in storage ahead of the Harris reopening in 2024. 

The Harris is currently closed for restorative building works. Harris Your Place is a £16 million project which will restore and reimagine the Harris for 21st-century audiences as a cultural learning space.
