A great grandma from Preston has switched on the city’s Christmas lights.

Georgette Jones won the Switch On Star competition for her dedication to the homeless community.

Caring Georgette, who received multiple nominations, uses her own money to give food to homeless people.

One nomination said: “Georgette is an inspiration and deserves to shine throughout Preston for her dedication and honour.”

She was also described as ‘a pillar of the community’ and a ‘selfless woman’.

Georgette was invited on stage at the Christmas Lights Switch On at the Flag Market on Saturday (19 November).

She spoke to the event hosts before joining famous faces to light up the city.
