South Ribble Council has confirmed the date and time for this year’s Remembrance Sunday parade as residents prepare to honour the Armed Forces.
South Ribble Borough Council has announced that the Remembrance parade and service will occur on Sunday, 13 November, with the parade commencing at Leyland’s Civic Centre at 10.35am, led by the Mayor of South Ribble, Councillor David Howarth.
The mayor will join the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Lancashire, Charles Hadcock, members of the Royal British Legion, representatives from local regiments and veterans and members of South Ribble Borough Council. Members of the Veteran’s Cafe and the Royal British Legion riders will accompany the parade on motorbikes.

Councillor David Howarth said: “Remembrance Sunday and the ceremonial Remembrance Sunday parade allows us all, locally, right across the nation and beyond, to take the time to pay our respects to all of those we have lost through conflict past and present.
“While it allows us to remember the past, it also allows us to reflect on current conflicts and reinforce our call for peace. The parade in Leyland enables us to all come together as a community to mark this poignant occasion, and it is a real honour to lead the parade as mayor this year.
“I welcome all of the community to come along and join us. We will remember them.”

The procession will walk along Lancastergate onto Tesco car park towards the Leyland Cross, where they will lay wreaths. It will exit onto Church Road and proceed towards the war memorial to St Andrew’s Church for a service, with the parade returning on the same route to the Civic Centre.
Road closures will be in place during the event, and other services will occur across the borough. The council has encouraged residents to line the route and attend the service to pay their respects and reflect on those who defended freedom and protected our way of life.
The council said Remembrance Sunday is a national opportunity to honour the Armed Forces and their families from Britain and the Commonwealth, the vital role played by the emergency services and those who lost their lives to conflict or terrorism.
