A serving Lancashire Police officer has been charged with attempted murder.
James Riley – who is based with the force’s South division covering areas including Preston and South Ribble – was charged after police were called to a report of a concern for the welfare of a woman at a Manchester hotel at approximately 11.30pm on Thursday 10 November.
Emergency services attended and the woman was taken to hospital, where she remains in a stable condition.
27-year-old Riley has been remanded in custody and will appear at Manchester Magistrates Court tomorrow (Monday 14 November).
A Lancashire Police spokesperson confirmed Riley has been suspended from duty, and that the matter has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
