A coffee van is serving up brews and treats from Haslam Park’s lime tree avenue.
Spangled Drongo Coffee was launched by trained barista Bec Hooley in June.
They will be trading from the park every weekend until mid-November, while starting to branch out into events, festivals and markets.
Bec said: “I’ve worked in well-known coffee shops in Brighton, London and Australia for the past 10 years, so I have learnt from some very talented people in this field.”
Sustainability is at the heart of Spangled Drongo, as Bec explains.
“We are trying to use local small businesses for our products. Our milk is from Holme Farm Dairies in Penwortham and our sweet treats from Cherry Blu Bakery who started in Barton.
“We are conscious about the environment and use compostable cups and lids from Decent packaging, and try to use ethical brands where possible.
“Our coffee is roasted in Leeds by our friend Zach of Chipp Coffee Co and he has sustainability in mind too.”

And what about that unusual name?
“The name is sometimes a conversation starter,” says Bec. “It’s a bird that’s found in Australia, which is where I lived for a short while. It’s quite unassuming but really cool.”
