A Preston woman is aiming for a pageant queen title while helping others.
For the last two years, Joanne Lawler – known as Jojo – has been on a pageantry journey that’s seen her win the titles Miss Lancashire 1st Runner-Up 2021 and Miss Alderly Edge International UK 2021.
Earlier this year Jojo placed fourth in Miss Great Britain Cheshire 2022 after being scouted by the contest’s director.
Alongside her pageantry work, Jojo is using her platform to raise awareness and empower others.
She said: “I use my social media to raise awareness on mental health service access and champion change.
“I also want to show others that you can achieve anything you put your mind to, by claiming your rights and being your own biggest advocate.”

Jojo is proud to have recently raised over £1,000 for the One Woman at a Time charity organisation.
Jojo is also known for her background as a Third Culture Kid, after attending school in various countries including Tanzania, India, England and Qatar.
Jojo, who is sponsored by Preston brand For Your Curls, said: “With my British/Nigerian heritage I embrace culture. Unfortunately I have experienced bullying due to my identity as a mixed-race female.
“However, I’m grateful for the support I’ve received from so many others.
“I’ll continue to use my social media as a platform to share the notion that beauty comes from within, every
chance I get.”
