Preston Orpheus Choir is almost back to full strength after a period of decline in membership.
The Choir is now putting itself to the test with an evening of French music at St Leonard’s Church in Marshalls Brow, Penwortham.
Choir spokesperson Mick Gardner said: “Like all choirs, we had to suspend ‘proper’ rehearsals during Covid, and finally managed to restart in September 2021 under the baton of new Musical Director, Nathan Smith.
“For a variety of reasons, membership numbers had declined. However in just over 12 months, the choir has seen numbers gradually increase and is very nearly back to where it was before Covid.”

Talking about the upcoming Penwortham performance, Mick said: “The evening will feature an ambitious programme of music by French composers.
“The audience can expect to hear works by Widor, Poulenc, Franck, Bizet and Fauré including his sublime Requiem Mass.
“Our soloists are Soprano/Mezzo Marie-Louise Lane, Tenor Chris Dodd and Bass David Twizell.”
An Evening of French Music by Preston Orpheus Choir will take place at St Leonard’s Church at 7.30pm on Saturday 12 November.
Tickets cost £11 on the door by cash or card, with under 18s going free.
New members are always welcome at the Choir, and details can be found on the Preston Orpheus Choir website.
