An Ashton fish and chip shop is undergoing a major refurbishment with a new management team for its re-opening in a few weeks.
AdvertisementUmberto’s on Watery Lane has been operating since 1973 and its new owner Gavin Hall has taken over the operations.
A sit down restaurant will be re-introduced, which the iconic takeaway has not seen for more than three decades.

Gavin told Blog Preston: “This will bring the Umberto brand back to its full ability and then also to take it to the next level with a few twists.”
The fish bar is looking to acquire an alcohol license so customers can have a ‘wine or beer’ with their meal for the full experience.
For a fine dining service the chippy will only be using fresh ingredients that are locally sourced to promote and help the local community.

On Facebook, Umberto’s Fish bar said in a recent post: “Our fish will be coming direct from Fleetwood docks to your plate, our chips will be from the finest potatoes, from the local veg markets and the rest, well, you catch our drift.”
The new owner is on the look out for food suggestions to build a menu ‘to fit what the locals want’.
Some items will be removed from the menu, and new additions will be introduced. Another announcement will be released in the coming weeks with more information.
