In October, two new music workshops open to the public will be starting at Cottam Community Centre.
The weekly workshops will take place from Monday 3 October.
The first is a weekly handbell group in which participants will learn simple patterns and tunes, enjoying the process of creating rich, clear music as part of a team from 1pm to 2pm.
The hour long sessions will be suitable for complete beginners through to experienced musicians keen to try something new.

Workshop leader, Jon Aveyard of Preston Music Workshops, said: “The handbells make a beautiful sound and it’s really satisfying when everything fits together.
“It’s not about any one person carrying the group; it’s everyone involved playing their part to make the music happen.

“I’m hoping that this workshop will bring a mixture of people with and without musical experience so we can support each other and maybe even work towards some performances.”
The second new weekly workshop, also led by Jon, is a new iteration of The Green Choir that has been running at Preston Climate Emergency Centre.

The Cottam version will focus on music inspired by the changing seasons and the local nature from 2pm to 3pm, and the group will occasionally head across the road to the park to sing their songs.
Jon said: “I’ll be looking to the particular plant-life and spaces and seasonal changes in the nearby park to determine which songs we learn.”
“I’m really looking forward to those times when we can go out and sing our songs surrounded by the nature and landscapes that have inspired them.”
A £5 entry is required for each of the sessions.
