Preston Flag Market will host a rally as part of the Enough is Enough national day of action.

Enough is Enough is a campaign to fight the cost of living crisis.

It was founded by trade unions and community organisations determined to ‘push back against the misery forced on millions by rising bills, low wages, food poverty, shoddy housing – and a society run only for a wealthy elite’.

The five demands of the campaign are:

  1. A real pay rise
  2. Slash energy bills
  3. End food poverty
  4. Decent homes for all
  5. Tax the rich

Speakers confirmed for the Flag Market rally are Leader of Preston City Council Councillor Matthew Brown, Councillor Valerie Wise, Chair of Preston No.1 Branch RMT Mark McCarrick, Hazards Campaign’s Janet Newsham, Chair of Preston Climate Emergency Centre Debbie Whiteside, and North West Regional Pensioners Association’s Derek Barton.

There will be music from Trouble at Mill and singer-songwriter Glyn Shipman, plus poetry from Jonny Cosmo.

A statement on the Enough is Enough website says: “We can’t rely on the establishment to solve our problems. It’s up to us in every workplace and every community.

“So, if you’re struggling to get by and your wages don’t cover the bills, if you’re fed up working harder for less and you’re worried about the future, or if you just can’t stand to see what’s happening to our country – join us.”

The Enough is Enough rally will take place on the Flag Market on Saturday 1 October from 12pm.
