A Year 8 student from Penwortham has raised £309 for Rosemere Cancer Foundation after a charity haircut saw her chop nine inches from her locks.
Lily Taylor, 12, who becomes a teenager in a couple of weeks, will return to Penwortham Girls’ High School with a ‘stylish bob’ after raising funds for Rosemere.
Lily, a scout with the 5th Penwortham Scouts and a member of Hutton Karate Club, gifted her shorn hair to the Little Princesses Trust, which provides wigs for children who lose their hair during cancer treatment.

Her mum, Carole, set up an online fundraising page so friends and family could sponsor Lily’s radical trim, which took place at David Thomas Hairdressing, Penwortham.
Carole said: “Lily has a very close bond with her grandad, my dad Dave. He and my mum were married for 52 years. We had been sorting through some of Mum’s things when Lily announced she wanted to cut her hair again for charity.
“My mum was treated at Rosemere Cancer Centre, and they were wonderful with her. I am very proud of Lily for doing what she’s done, especially at an age when hair becomes a more sensitive subject.
“Staff at the salon were really great and made Lily feel very special. We are very grateful to them and everyone who has supported Lily.”

It is the second time she has gifted her hair to charity. In 2017, aged 7, Lily went from long hair to a short pixie cut, a transition inspired by her maternal nana Mary, who Lily called ‘Ninny’, and Carole’s friend Cheryl.
Mary and Cheryl lost their hair while undergoing ovarian and breast cancer treatment. While Cheryl is now well, Mary sadly passed away last year.
Rosemere Cancer Foundation works to bring cancer treatments and services to cancer patients treated at Rosemere Cancer Centre. It is the specialist cancer treatment and radiotherapy centre at the Royal Preston Hospital.
