Former staff and regulars of the Lamb and Packet pub in Friargate are holding a much-anticipated reunion.
The event will take place on Saturday 8 October upstairs at the Adelphi. The party will start at 7pm, with food available to purchase in the bar downstairs.
One regular Sean Livesey told Blog Preston about the history of the pub and why it means so much to so many people.
Sean said: “The pub, situated at the Adelphi roundabout, was a bridge between ‘Town and Gown’, a melting pot of university students and Preston locals alike. From humble beginnings as one of the least visited hostelries on Friargate, the pub was transformed by the arrival of landlord and landlady, Dennis and Linda Carsley, in 1984.
“Always ahead of the game, Dennis and Linda transformed the pub into a vibrant local that was busy every night of the week, whether hosting the university rugby team, locals meeting before a trip to other public houses further up Friargate, members of Lancashire Constabulary unwinding after a hard day’s graft, or simply the rag-tag of ne’er do wells who usually inhabited the vault.
“Linda was at the forefront of the pub grub explosion that we take for granted in today’s establishments. From the kitchen, ably assisted by her much-missed mother Elsie, she would present a range of dishes to satisfy the hungry customers – even at one point investing in her own pizza oven.
“Dennis was always on hand willing to share his latest joke with you, although you may have had to wait some time for him to arrive at the punchline. Sadly, Dennis and Linda moved on in 1998, but not before they helped people to form life long friendships, relationships, and even marriages.
“After making contact with two regulars who were reminiscing of their days of youth spent in the pub, Linda agreed that it was the right time to try and gather as many old friends and customers together to celebrate their memories of the times spent together in the Lamb and Packet.”
