A petition has been launched objecting to the reintroduction of a hot food takeaway near Preston North End‘s stadium in Deepdale.
The former ‘refreshments hut’ used to operate on match days only, and was closed around ten years ago.
Now that new proposals seek for the takeaway to operate on a daily basis from Monday to Sunday, it has caused concern amongst those living nearby who say food waste may lead to a rat infestation in the area.
The proposals for the takeaway, on the junction of Hollins Road and Sir Tom Finney Way, from Mr S Ismail were lodged in April this year.
A petition against the development has garnered 150 signatures so far.
One person who wished to remain anonymous told Blog Preston that youngsters often gather in the car park and create mess.
They said: “Even without the cafe youngsters will pull up in their car for a quick smoke in the car park and then they dump all the food rubbish.”
Mehboob from Deepdale, who set up the petition, also says that youngsters often cause nuisance for the neighbouring areas to the car park.

He said: “Local people refused this idea from 10 to 12 years ago, and we complained to the council.
“The youngsters that sit in the car always leave their food rubbish behind. The car park caretakers have to clean up food like burgers and pizza.
“Also people in general throw litter and food scraps in people’s front gardens without much thought.
“If the takeaway is open till late it will double the food rubbish.
“On top of that there’s already a parking issue, especially when football matches are on, with people parking in front of people’s houses.”
