A local Zumba group has invited residents to an MS Society charity event this Saturday with three licensed instructors to raise vital funds.

On Saturday, 6 August, from 10.30am to 3.30pm, Penwortham Zumba Fitness will host the ‘Zumba Summer Party 22’ and a summer fete at The Rene Sladen Centre for Guiding to raise awareness of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Great Britain.

Non-ticket holders are welcome, and the group has encouraged people to listen to the band and peruse the stalls, with local businesses donating prizes for the raffle.

The charity is close to the group’s hearts as two of the three licensed instructors received Relapsing-Remitting MS diagnoses.

Group representative Jaime Kirby said: “Through our event, we are committed to raising as much awareness and funds for MS Society as it is a charity that means a lot to us.

“I was diagnosed over ten years ago with multiple sclerosis. After taking daily injections for two years and disease-modifying drugs, I decided to stop.

“Six years later, I developed multiple lesions on my spine, alerting the need for more treatment, which has led me to the infusions I am currently receiving to reduce my attacks.”

Jaime would not be able to have the infusions without MS charity events raising funds for research and treatments.

The group said donating funds towards this research ‘gives hope to future generations’ tackling the disease.

Jaime said: “We have the power to influence that change and be part of a solution together.

“Zumba has been such a big part of my life. Without it, I would not have pushed myself, building my physical and mental strength.

“Through classes, I have made friendships for life, had so much fun and so many giggles! The support of friends around you is a huge part of Zumba, and I’m grateful for that and always want to share it.

“Finding out that I have MS has taught me to enjoy life and use my body as much as possible while I can! Every day is a blessing, and I’m lucky – luckier than most.”
