The public is invited to climb one of the UK’s tallest buildings and Preston’s highest point.
AdvertisementThe spire at St. Walburge’s Church in Ashton-on-Ribble is being opened on Saturday 20 August from 4pm to 8pm, giving visitors the chance to climb the 309-foot (94 metre) spire.
On a clear day, visitors have an excellent view of Preston, and the surrounding countryside as far as Blackpool.

The tower contains a single bell of 31 cwt (1.5 tonnes) cast by Mears and Stainbank of Whitechapel, which is the heaviest swinging bell in Lancashire.
Visitors can buy tickets online for £10, with all proceeds going to assist in the maintenance of this structure and especially the restoration of the rose window.
Tickets will not be available at the door.
Every 30 minutes, 15 people will be able to climb the 172 steps. Tours of the church will be offered and refreshments served in the Hall.
