Summer Saturdays return to Preston this weekend to offer residents a packed schedule of events across three local sites.
AdvertisementEvents occur throughout the summer on Preston Flag Market, with larger-scale events occurring in Avenham Park and The MET.
Saturday 16 July – Queen’s Baton Relay
A busy schedule of activities and events are planned, with opportunities to highlight untold stories from baton bearers striving for change in their community.

The Queen’s Baton Relay will visit The Continental and travel through Avenham and Miller Parks, across Winckley Square, into Fishergate, visit Preston Markets and end at the Flag Market.

Saturday, 23 July – ‘Making a Mark: Immaterial World’
From 12pm to 4pm, Flag Market will host the free event, ‘Making a Mark: Immaterial World’.
The event will see residents enjoy a day of fun, creative activities, such as a ‘graffiti jam’, where people can draw on the Flag Market floor with chalk, life drawing with a model (clothed), and a ‘poetry jam’ or ‘painting jam’ led by local artists.
The Worldwise Samba Drummers will also be in attendance, with crafts tables offering items to buy and activities to try.
This day is about recycling/up-cycling materials, so residents are encouraged to bring a clean plastic bottle to make a shaker to join the drummers.

Saturday, 30 July – ‘The Whale ‘Plastic Ocean’
From 11am to 4pm, Flag Market will host the free event (booking required), ‘The Whale ‘Plastic Ocean”.
Explorers will squeeze into the belly of an inflatable Sperm Whale, where they find themselves in the depths of the bubbling, kelp-swirling ocean.
They will encounter an aquatic diver who leads them through the journey of the life of an ancient leatherback turtle.
With puppets, comedy and music, Circo Rum Ba Ba explores the tale of sea creatures and their battle to survive in an ocean full of rubbish.
The audience help save the turtle and the whale from a deluge of plastic and travel from the Indian Ocean to a coral reef.

Saturday, 6 August – LPM Dance Festival
From 11am to 4pm, Flag Market will host the free LPM Dance Festival.
Saturday, 13 August – ‘Makers Market’
Flag Market will host ‘Makers Market’.
Residents can pick up local products, from cakes and handmade bread to cheeses and locally distilled gins.
The Makers Market also hosts unique crafters of all varieties, with the market also on Preston Flag Market on Saturday, 11 June and 9 July.

Saturday, 20 August – Circus Skills
From 12pm to 4pm, Preston Markets will host the free event, Circus Skills.
Residents can try juggling and clown skills with a Splatt’s Circus skills teacher, with street magic, escapology, and more available.

Saturday, 27 August – ‘Harris in the City’
From 12pm to 4pm, Flag Market will host the free event, ‘Harris in the City’.
The Harris fashion event will showcase Horrockses X Joanie.
Many designs draw inspiration from original Horrockses dresses from the 1940s and 1950s in the Harris Museum collection.
The Harris cares for the most extensive Horrockses Fashions collection in the UK.

Saturday, 24 September – Preston Pride
Flag Market will host Preston Pride.
Everyone is welcome as the city celebrates Preston’s LGBTQ+ communities with live music, appearances, and various information stands and stalls.
