Hour-by-hour weather forecast as Preston prepares for amber ‘extreme heat’

Preston residents are preparing themselves for a hot spell after The Met Office issued an amber ‘extreme heat’ warning for later this weekend and the beginning of next week.

The Met Office said the heatwave is likely to develop from Sunday, peaking early next week between Sunday, 17, and Tuesday, 19 July, with ‘exceptionally high temperatures’ possible during both day and night and the NHS urging residents to stay safe.

The heatwave will affect much of the UK, with a Monday red ‘extreme heat’ warning falling just short of Preston.

Here is an hour-by-hour forecast for the city over the next six days:

Friday, 15 July

12 noon – Cloudy, with a 70 per cent chance of rain and the temperature staying fairly low.

1pm – Temperatures will rise slightly to 16 degrees, with clouds above and a small chance of rain.

2pm – Conditions will stay the same, but the temperature will rise by one degree.

3pm – A 40 per cent chance of rain, with the temperature remaining at 17 degrees.

4pm – Conditions will stay the same.

5pm – The rain will clear up, with other conditions staying the same.

6pm – Sunny, with partial cloud coverage.

7pm – Sunny, with no clouds and the temperature remaining at 17 degrees.

8pm – Conditions will stay the same, but the temperature will drop by one degree.

9pm – Conditions will stay the same.

10pm – The temperature will continue dropping to the low teens.

11pm – The temperature will drop another degree to 14.

Saturday, 16 July

12 midnight to 5am – The temperature will remain in the low teens.

6am – Sunny, with the temperature remaining at 12 degrees.

7am – Partial cloud coverage, but the temperature will begin to rise.

8am – Sunny, with the temperature rising to 15 degrees.

9am – Partial cloud coverage, with the temperature continuing to rise.

10am – 17 degrees, with partial cloud coverage.

11am – 18 degrees, with no clouds.

12 noon – Sunny, with no clouds and the temperature rising to 19 degrees.

1pm – The temperature will rise into the low 20s.

2pm – The hottest point in the day, with 21-degree temperatures and partial cloud coverage.

3pm – Conditions will stay the same but have no clouds.

4pm – 11pm Cloudy, with temperatures remaining the same.

5pm – 11pm – The temperature will fall between these hours, but it will drop no lower than 18 degrees until midnight.

Sunday, 17 July (amber extreme heat warning)

12 midnight – Cloudy, with 17-degree temperatures.

1am- Conditions will stay the same, with a one-degree rise in temperature.

4am – A 40 per cent chance of rain.

7am – Cloudy, with the temperature rising back to 18 degrees.

10am – 21 degrees, with cloud coverage.

1pm to 3pm – The temperature will rise to 25 degrees.

4pm to 6pm – The temperature will remain at a sweltering 28 degrees.

7pm to 9pm – The temperature will dip slightly to 27 degrees

10pm – A slightly cooler 23 degrees.

Monday, 18 July (amber extreme heat warning)

1am to 3am – A hot night is expected, with temperatures at 20 degrees.

4am to 6am – A slightly cooler period, with temperatures at 18 degrees.

7am to 9am – Sunny, with 19-degree temperatures.

10am to 12 noon – The temperature will rise to 23 degrees.

1pm to 3pm – A very hot afternoon, with temperatures at 26 degrees.

4pm to 6pm – The temperatures will rise further to 29 degrees.

7pm to 9pm – Conditions will stay the same, with 29 degrees expected well into the evening.

10pm to 12 midnight – The temperatures will drop slightly, but they will remain at 25 degrees.

Tuesday, 19 July (amber extreme heat warning)

1am to 3am – The temperature will fall to the low 20s.

4am to 6am – Conditions will stay the same.

7am to 9am – The temperature will rise to 24 degrees.

10am to 12 noon – A blistering 27 degrees, with temperatures continuing to rise.

1pm to 3pm – Temperatures will reach the low 30s, with a sizzling 31 degrees expected.

4pm to 6pm – Conditions may get slightly hotter still, with 32 degrees expected.

7pm to 9pm – Temperatures will drop, but they will remain at 28 degrees.

10pm to 12 midnight – The temperature will continue to drop, with 23 degrees expected.

Wednesday, 20 July

1am to 3am – A cooler 30 degrees, with a 30 per cent chance of rain.

4am to 6am – Temperatures will continue to drop, with 19 degrees and rain expected.

7am to 9am – The temperature will rise to 20 degrees, with spots of sun and a 60 per cent chance of rain.

10am to 12 noon – Conditions will stay the same.

1pm to 3pm – Conditions will stay the same.

4pm to 6pm – Conditions will stay the same.

7pm to 9pm – The temperature will begin to drop.

10pm to 12 midnight – 17 degrees, with a 40 per cent chance of rain.
