The Met Office has updated its amber heat warning to Monday, 18 July, with temperatures rising to 28 degrees.
AdvertisementThe news follows an update issued by The Met Office yesterday, warning of soaring temperatures throughout the week, with Sunday, 17 July, set for similarly hot weather.
The Met said temperatures will rise again later this week and over the coming weekend, likely peaking on Sunday and Monday but may last into Tuesday in places.

Some ‘exceptionally high temperatures’ are possible, and cumulative effects of warm nights and hot days are expected to bring widespread impacts on people and infrastructure.
Population-wide adverse health effects are likely, not limited to those most vulnerable to extreme heat, leading to potentially serious illness or danger to life.
The government has advised residents that 999 services should be used in emergencies only, with people urged to seek advice from 111 if they need non-emergency health advice.

The Met Office said ‘substantial changes’ in working practices and daily routines are likely required.
More people are likely to visit coastal areas, lakes and rivers, leading to an increased risk of water safety incidents.
Delays on roads and road closures are possible, with delays and cancellations to rail and air travel and a potential for significant welfare issues for those who experience even moderate delays.
